Our Church History

The Genesis

"And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved." - Acts 2:47

The first IPC Ebenezer Church in Thane district was established in Ulhasnagar in 1967, uniting believers from Thane to Badlapur. Initially, our church meetings were held in various members' homes, including Sunday services in Ulhasnagar. As our church family grew, we encountered challenges and stood firm in faith through trials. During a convention on November 13-14, 1967, our guest speaker, Pr. PM Philip, faced persecution, leading us to move our worship venue to Ambernath under the leadership of Pr. PM George, accompanied by around 20 devoted member families.

Leadership Changes

"So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace and was being built up. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it multiplied." - Acts 9:31

When Pr. PM George moved to the USA, Pr. Mathew Samuel and Pr. KV Kurian from Chembur IPC stepped in to lead our meetings in Ambernath. In 1969, the church was blessed with the arrival of Pr. VJ Thomas and Pr. PV John, who had just completed their Bible school studies. From 1970 to 1972, Pr. PM Mathew led the congregation with deep commitment.

In 1973, we expanded to Kalyan, initially holding meetings at the Railway School in Kalyan East. Throughout the week, we gathered in members' homes across Ambernath and Kalyan, fostering fellowship and unity. By 1979-1980, we had also initiated PYPA and Sunday School programs, enriching our community further.

Developments

"And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." - Matthew 16:18

Our church family continued to grow, leading us to acquire a parsonage and land in Ambernath to build a dedicated church hall. Meanwhile, in Kalyan, we also rented a parsonage in Kolsewadi. In 1987, due to increasing travel difficulties and the expanding church family, we branched into two churches - one in Ambernath and the other in Kalyan.

Pr. Babuji Samuel became the first pastor of the IPC Ebenezer Church in Kalyan, beginning with a small but committed group of 15-16 members. Through faithful dedication and the unwavering support of our church family, we acquired a parsonage and conducted services in various schools.

From 1991 to 1997, Pr. KJ Varghese served as our pastor. God enabled us to acquire land and build the IPC Ebenezer prayer hall in 1993 during his tenure. Since then, our church has been continually nurtured by anointed ministers of God, growing both spiritually and in numbers through the power of Christ. Under Pr. P. S. Jose’s leadership, a new parsonage was built alongside the prayer hall. Today, our pastors reside here with their families, conducting prayer meetings in the church hall and members' homes, fostering deeper community connections.

Present Day

"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age." - Matthew 28:19-20

Since June 2023, our church has been led by Pastor Koshy Idiculla, an anointed minister of God. We gather for worship every Sunday morning at IPC Ebenezer Hall, Kalyan East, from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Additionally, we hold Bible study meetings on Thursdays and fasting prayers on Fridays. Our auxiliary ministries, such as Sunday School, PYPA, and Sodari Samajam (Women’s Fellowship), remain actively involved in spiritual enrichment and Gospel outreach. We also conduct a Scripture School every Saturday, where families from the neighbourhood join us to learn the Word of God, engage in music, and participate in faith-building activities.
